Preface: Me and a buddy of mine have been watching the Rock's best matches on Netflix recently and during a tag match where Rock and Mankind were performing a "Double People's Elbow" on the Big Show, I said how wonderful that Rocky took perhaps the most vanilla move in wrestling (the elbow drop) and turned it into such a fucking spectacle. I said, that in a less-charismatic wrestler's hands, "The People's Elbow" would be the worst move in wrestling.
That's when I was informed about "The Worm". Needless to say I've been out of wrestling for a decade or so, so I didn't believe my friend until he showed me a video of it being executed.
What about the Five Knuckle Shuffle? Running the ropes, stopping, and waving your hand a foot from the guy's face won't make your fist drop any faster.
Besides, the worst thing in wrestling? How about the fact that the guy Scotty 2 Hotty is giving the Worm to is none other than Irwin R. Shyster (IRS), the evil tax accountant.
I'm pretty sure that grew organically as Scotty Too Hotty's career took off and he incorporated it into the act. If it wasn't for this move, he would have been known as "the guy who's not Jerry Lawler's kid".
This is nothing short of a brilliant parody of the People's Elbow, literally the worst move in wrestling history. The fact that the Rock was able to use it to climb to the pinnacle of wrestling is a testament to how charismatic that guy really is.
