Ian McKellan as (a) Number Two is a good choice. Everything else I reserve to judge. I hope this wouldn't be horrible.

|
Sputum - 2009-07-28 I'm really skeptical. Ian McKellan is cool, but the fact that number 2 is only played by one person is very uncool.
This looks vaguely like The Prisoner show only with all of the originality and magic sucked out of it. Instead of being intriguing and surreal, this looks like it is directed by a cheap Michael Bay knock off.
And damn, rover put on weight.
|
IrishWhiskey - 2009-07-28 I can understand skepticism. But what on earth about this says Micheal Bay? It was nine-minutes of exposition and ominous looks, and only one brief explosion. Whatever this is like, its not action heavy.

No interest in it before, counting down the days now. Yep, I guess its an effective trailer. Especially since I'm increasingly skeptical of V.

They appear to have completely changed the basic essence of the original but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I choose to see this less as a remake of The Prisoner as something strongly inspired by it, and on its own it looks excellent.

Looks like it could be interesting, but the biggest problem as I see it is the inclusion of continuous characters. The entire undercurrent of the original show was attempting to psychologically break No. 6, and allowing him to form attachments with Villagers seems very opposite of the attitude and atmosphere of the original series.
|
fluffy - 2009-07-28 Yes, and also it seems like in this version the other prisoners are actually prisoners/brainwashed folks/etc. and not just part of the conspiracy built around breaking #6 (or at least that was my take on the original).
I think it has a lot of potential to be really good on its own, but at least based on this teaser it is most certainly NOT a remake of the original.

Very, very treacherous nerd ground is being trod upon here...
The recurring characters don't necessarily bother me as much as the idea of a steady love interest. Oh sure, #6 managed to get laid a few times but it was with some chick who was planning to kill him or something.

Cleaner82 - 2009-07-28 This is not that. That is that. This is this.

I'm not familiar with the original show. This seems to cheat an awful lot.

No no nooooooooooooooooooo.
The Simpsons parody was better.

Michael Houser - 2009-07-29 Also, I would like you to reference back to The Watchman link on the right, and read those hopeful quotes, and know why I say NO.
