Home, Home on LaGrange.
Where the Zeus and the Hercules play.
Where seldom is heard,
a red warning word.
And the skies are streaked lightning and pain.
The area behind my parents' house was a former Nike Hercules launch site, demolished and redeveloped into homes and a park at some point in the 1970s/80s. We'd always joke that hopefully the Russians have updated satellite photographs of the place, otherwise they're living right next to a potential ground zero.
Sprint missile is still my fave, for the following...
"The Sprint accelerated at 100 g, reaching a speed of Mach 10 in 5 seconds. Such a high velocity at relatively low altitudes created skin temperatures up to 6200 °F (3400 °C), requiring an ablative shield to dissipate the heat."
