infinite zest - 2014-05-10 This is pretty awesome. I've never been there except for the airport (what's up with the flying pigs everywhere?) but a lot of my gay friends moved from St. Louis and have nothing except for negative things to say about the general public's stance on homosexuality, which is why they moved to the West Coast. Don't get me wrong, go ten miles outside of Portland Olympia or Seattle and you'll still see plenty of homophobia here, but this is a step in the right direction.
|
infinite zest - 2014-05-10 Also I can't remember the show but it was some big deal when they were going to show two girls kissing on TV, and they announced it beforehand like "parents lock up your daughters a girl's about to kiss a girl" and that was like less than a decade ago. Now it's two men kissing on ESPN. Pretty fucking rad.

The Mothership - 2014-05-10 Infinite Zest, rural Oregon may as well be deepest darkest West Virginia.
|
oddeye - 2014-05-10 Cpt. Kirk kissed that black girl in Star Trek too. It wasn't as forced as this stuff nowadays cause he was already an established super fuckmaster.

That guy - 2014-05-10 overwhelming majority of comments are positive, from the few I read, with a few tame dumb jokes:

lets be honest 50% of the reason he was crying is because the rams suck

infinite zest - 2014-05-11 Oh you're right it was Rosanne. I never watched the show but it was this huge controversy, same with Ellen Degeneres coming out on the show and people calling her Ellen Degenerate, things like that.
It'll take at least one or two more generations for gays in sports to be considered "normal," especially if it's not the typical ones associated with homosexuality, like figure skating, gymnastics.. The way the commentator mentions "openly gay" at the beginning still represents the rift. When Brett Favre "retired," also crying, they didn't say "all-star quarterback who cheated on his wife who has breast cancer while on a mixture of vicodin alcohol" Choose your heroes. Sam's mine.
|
infinite zest - 2014-05-11 I don't know shit about football but to each their own; my personal hatred, ironically enough, was being called a faggot," among other things, by the assistant coach of the Junior Football league in like fifth grade, and that I'd never be good at it.

infinite zest - 2014-05-12 Word. I mostly hang out at the Clinton St. Pub in SE. I'm there every night, usually after midnight when I'm off work or at least I will be until the end of the month because I'm getting turned into a condo :(
|
Change - 2014-05-12 EasySnake has the right attitude.

posertom - 2014-05-12 Every night, huh? Sounds like me and ducketts. Sure, I'll drop by tonight.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-05-10
Jeff Fisher is a pretty cool ass coach. A lot of people in Nashville still really miss him. So, I'm glad Sam will be playing for him.

Riskbreaker - 2014-05-10
I was expecting some nasty yt comments, surprisingly didn't find any so far. Good for this man to see his dreams not sabotaged by hate.

memedumpster - 2014-05-10 Jewmosexcult-fu is the name of my newly invented style of martial art.

That guy - 2014-05-10 I meant to reply here that I didn't see many negative comments either.
Can't find edit button.

I have no idea if he is a good player or how many goals he has scored and shit. For many shitty people EVERYTHING that happens in his professional career is going to "because he's a gay."
Oh, he was hired for Ram? Only signed him cause he's queer-as-folk.
He scored 4 points? Must be all that power-cum/light-beer he chugs.
He got hacked and both his legs are broken? Good job, idol(s) that I may-or-may-not claim to worship!
Cincinnati Slitters lost? Our hetro-patriots had to cover their colons with both hands against this pack of ravenous gaylords and couldn't pass the ball right.

The Mothership - 2014-05-10
Shit, I didn't realize that was his boyfriend he was hugging there. That took some guts on the part of ESPN to televise that. And a damn fine thing to televise, in my opinion. This made me feel good.

Awww. I thought this was a Steve Francis/crestfallen to be drafted by this team deal.
|
magnesium - 2014-05-11
As absolutely adorable as this is, I hate that face people make when they're trying not to cry.
|
BorrowedSolution - 2014-05-11
Sure, why not.

Bort - 2014-05-11
You know who are the real victims here? All the abusive, bigoted high school football coaches. Now they're going to have nothing but exchanges like this:
"I can't believe what I saw out on the field today, you all are a bunch of little faggots!"
"Just like Michael Sam, thanks coach!"
By mid November we can expect a rash of donut-and-vodka-fueled suicides, mark my words.

Callamon - 2014-05-11
I know one little white boy twink who is getting bred tonight!
Do they do this for every player or were they just exploiting this guy ?
|
memedumpster - 2014-05-11 They do it for every player, probably because once a year there's a player who thinks they should be called by Jesus's Personal Blowjob Team and offered billions, and so act like manchildren and make dumb threats to quit when they aren't.
It's fun.

The reaction to this has been the polar opposite in tone of when Jan Vesely was drafted in the NBA by Washington.
