Well, I'm a New Englander. Football is the sport I follow the least though so I don't know how to rate this?

I don't follow football, either. All I know about the Patriots is that they were supposed to move to Hartford, and that this move was the centerpiece of a massive economic stimulus plan for a city that's really only known for it's murder rate and for producing assault rifles (Colt WOOOO!). But they backed out at the last minute, leaving Hartford with a brand new, taxpayer funded, half-a-billion dollar stadium complex and no sports team to put there.

Not that I blame them.

Hartford's probably better off, there's no solid evidence that sports are actually a net gain for local economies and plenty of evidence that they're a net loss for local communities.

Actually, I take that back. It's substantially true as far as I know, but I'm just not comfortable saying that Hartford is "better off" in any context at all.

So are you from New England, too, or does Hartford's bad name reach beyond the Pale?

I live in Vermont but am not at all about following the Patriots.
