This is WW2-era variation of a maneuver developed by Royal Flying Corps ace Raymond Collishaw. The traditional Collishaw Excursion calls for the pilot to empty all six chambers of a .455 Webley revolver into the pursuer before landing back in the cockpit of his biplane (facing backwards).
German historians claim that the Collishaw Excursion was only developed after he witnessed Luftstreitkrfte Oberleutnant Friedrich Lothar Josias von Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of the Jagdstaffel 11 perform his Flugzeugschlingendabspringendschieendzurckgekommenangreifendman ver (Strangely the maneuver was named with grammatically incorrect German).
British historians generally respond by making farting noises or hand wank gestures as the Flugzeugschlingendabspringendschieendzurckgekommenangreifendman ver of Luftstreitkrfte Jagdstaffel 11 Oberleutnant Friedrich Lothar Josias von Saxe-Coburg-Gotha is described, then looking innocent.
