I loved those episodes that ended in a massive studio audience-pleasing fistfight that pit the Bundys against a broadly drawn collection of unlikable stereotypes. They really made little sense in the greater arc of Married With Children canon, though; however cathartic it was to see our protagonists become agents of karmic justice via chaotic, family-based melee, it hardly matched their eternal status as complete and utter losers. One would think a family comprised of such hardened and capable warriors would be able to carve some measure of success and happiness from this world, but each episode began anew with them freshly morose and spiritually defeated. Perhaps in this there is a lesson for all of us.
