The Jimi Hendrix Experience makes their American debut at the Monterey Pop Festival.
Hendrix and Pete Townsend of the Who get into an argument of who will go on first-- they both want to put on a show stopper. Pete went first and the Who smashed their instruments.
Hendrix came on and opened with an incendiary rhythmic Killing Floor that blew away Townsend's rhythm playing.
This version of Like a Rolling Stone is sublime in the performance and guitar technique. There were guitarists at the time who were doing similar things-- many R&B guitarists had similar licks and approaches, but Hendrix combined it all together into a distinguisable style.
