I suppose, charitably, you could argue that they broke the windows to see whether there was anything of danger to them in the car; I'm reluctant to think that's actually what was going on here, but, you know, I'm trying not to confirmation bias myself into a tizzy.
I mean, is it really confirmation bias when police have been caught red-handed doing stuff like (and much more sneaky) this over and over all over Europe and North America for like 150 years? Seems more like Occam's razor to me.
Well, yes, I think it still would be confirmation bias, technically speaking. Just a really credible bias. Especially since another way of finding out whether anything dangerous is inside the car is looking through the windows. So you're both right; orange slices all around.
