Basically what he did was take the work of Jack Davis, Harvey Kurtzman and Sergio Aragones and apply them to the manga medium, which was a great thing to do. You reach the early Lupin mangas and there’s such strong influence by Kurtzman he actually picks up on Kurtzman’s influence by Rube Goldberg. It’s brilliant. I love Monkey Punch, he was really the first cosmopolitan Japanese artist.
