After receiving a terminal brain cancer diagnosis, lead singer Gord Downie announced that they'd be doing their final tour. Reasonably-priced tickets (with a portion going to charity) were immediately snatched up by digital scalpers and marked up, in some cases thousands of percent, for resale.

In response the CBC said they'd broadcast their final show on Saturday live and commercial-free so anyone could see it. Fuck cancer and scalpers.

As a Canadian, I have to endure a non-stop barrage of faux-fandom for this mediocre bar band since the lead singer got cancer. I can't escape the army of morons who gobble up whatever Can-con bullshit is shoved down their throats by the lazy Canadian media.

Hey, sorry you got cancer, I'm sure you are a nice guy but your band is not interesting. You are actually incredibly boring.

Five stars for this ending soon.

Yeah, the overexposure factor is (and was) a bit annoying. Back in the 90s I had zero interest in them because they were playing every 20 minutes on the radio. Once they got to a once-in-a-while thing they were much easier on the ears. They really are Canada's official Bar Band Made Good, for good or ill.
