Oh my God, the game he was playing looked AMAZING. It looked like Commander Mark's Secret City: The Game.

gammon - 2013-08-26 There is only one game that looks that cool. I'm pretty positive it's Blade & Soul.

Why does everyone in this sound like they memorized their lines phonetically?

Two fun facts about solid state drives:
1) it's impossible to remove data from them with normal methods. Even after military grade drive wipes, it can be recovered with an electron microscope.
2) for optimal performance on a PC, you need to running Windows 2000. All the later versions use different methods of accessing data on the drive that degrade read and write times on SSDs. Windows Vista is the second best. So have fun with that.
For now, the best thing about them is that they've pushed the price of conventional drives down to where a decent quality 3tb drive is under 0.

hammsangwich - 2013-08-26 1. I'm very worried about reselling my drives on ebay now because I know many people have electron microscopes and will be able to read my data.
2. I am not going to buy an SSD now, even though they perform at 4-5x the speed of a mechanical drive in Windows 7.

He installs a brand new OS every couple months?
And do housewives really need to spend ten times more on an SSD so they can finally tackle the difficult chore of organizing their family photos? GOOD THING THE MEN FOLK MAKE ALL THE PURCHASING DECISIONS, am I right, guys?! Don't let Bettie near your credit card or she'll blow your paycheck on dresses, shoes, and bullshit solid state hardware!

Generally speaking, installing a solid state drive will not make up for the fact that you browse in an unsafe manner and don't run disk defragmenter.

Nikon - 2013-08-26 There was a typo in the text I copied and pasted. Sorry about that.
|
Redford - 2013-08-26 My point was that regardless of what your hard drive is, users with unsafe computing habits will continue to use them.
I read the wikipedia article, and I still fail to understand the zany future technology that allows a physical chip to only be written a certain number of times. Also, apparently drive failures in SSDs are much more devastating then with HDDs. They fail suddenly with a massive loss of data. They are also vulnerable to software glitches, since in order for Wear Leveling to be effective, new data is only written to sectors that have the most number of writes, scatting the data around the drive. If the controller fails or loses integrity then it can be very hard to figure out how it was distributing data.

The chief advantage of a solid state drive is you install games like Left 4 Dead 2 on them and grief opposing players because you can load into levels faster.

Best part? This isn't a commercial. It was intended as a promo to be shown primarily as an in-the-industry thing.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-08-26 So to a mostly sexist and racist insular group that wouldn't find this offensive in the least?

StanleyPain - 2013-08-26 Apparently the tech industry is a seedy hotbed of racism and sexism? CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE, SAMSUNG

I considered submitting this, but some were claiming it was done for foreign audiences who aren't fluent in English (then again, why didn't they just use foreign speakers?)

I suspect the dialog was written BY people for whom English isn't their first language. Still, it doesn't excuse the horrific acting.

This is just about the best ESL English sketch about technology ever made. Thank you, Samsung.
Also, a lot of Korean advertising is like this.
